AQA GCSE in English Literature

These pages are designed to provide support for students completing the AQA GCSE in English Literature at the London Nautical School.

The GCSE English Literature programme runs during your last two periods of English each week. During this time a dedicated programme of exam preparation will be completed with your long-term English teacher.

Written Coursework

25% of GCSE

The coursework for the AQA English Language GCSE qualification consists of one controlled assessment on the topic of Shakespeare and the Literary Heritage which was originally submitted at the end of December 2014.

Examination: Modern Fiction

40% of GCSE

Exam

One Examination where candidates answer in the form of three essays, examining two of the modern texts they have studied as part of their Key Stage 4 programme.

Poetry Across Time

35% of GCSE

Exam

One Examination where candidates answer in the form of two essays. Essay one compares two poems from the anthology they have studied in Key Stage 4, and Essay two asks the candidates to respond to an un-seen poem.
